The Boardroom Review and Dissent

A boardroom review allows the table to assess their performance in a holistic manner. It assists tables to identify weaknesses in their leadership and culture, as well as aspects of longevity. It also ensures that those who pay for table memberships are able to perform their roles.

This research area is in development and there remain several challenges. The current empirical evidence suggests mixed results regarding how dissent affects boards and the way they function. Some studies report positive (Zona 2016,) curvilinear, non-significant or mixed results. Other studies take a look at the site here report negative (Brown Buchholtz And Butts 2019, Heemskerk Heemskerk and Wats, Minichilli, et al. 2012) relations between dissent and the board’s performance.

The literature doesn’t provide more insight into the factors that affect the dynamics of dissension. Future research needs to develop an integrated theoretical framework to understand this governance phenomenon. This could include the use of configurational approaches (Federo and Saz-Carranza in 2018; Schiell, Lewellyn & Yan 2023) in order to help researchers understand the way in which attributes process, processes and contexts are linked the necessary and sufficient causality.

In addition, many studies employ the narrow definition of dissent and do not present precise measurement methods. These studies are therefore prone to measurement errors. It would be worthwhile to develop more robust measurement techniques for dissent in future studies.
